A gas station employee has been arrested after Robertson County Sheriff’s Office investigators say they found illegal kratom products being sold from the trunk of a vehicle during an investigation in Springfield.
Investigators executed a search warrant July 21 at the North Point gas station, located at 4960 Highway 41 North, as part of an investigation into the sale of kratom and alleged money laundering.
During the search, investigators said they found numerous illegal kratom products inside the trunk of a vehicle belonging to employee Vamshidhar Reddy Donapati of Portland. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation determined Donapati was selling the products from the trunk in the parking lot to keep them out of sight inside the store.
Donapati was arrested and charged with possession of kratom with intent to sell, a Class C felony under Tennessee law. He is being held at the Robertson County Detention Facility on a $50,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office said additional felony charges related to the sale and delivery of kratom, as well as money laundering, are expected to be presented to a Robertson County Grand Jury.
Sheriff Michael Van Dyke praised investigators, saying they will continue working to keep illegal drugs out of the community and hold offenders accountable.
