Miguel-Diaz-Barriga

Miguel Diaz-Barriga, 85 years of age, was a resident of Springfield, TN at the time of his death on Monday, March 21, 2022. Miguel passed away after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease while in the able care of NHC HealthCare Springfield.

Miguel was born in Mexico, in the state of Michoacan on March 12, 1937, to Miguel Diaz-Barriga, Sr., and Maria Teresa Huato Diaz-Barriga.

Miguel grew up with three siblings, an older sister, and younger sister, and brother, and spent much time on the family’s ranch where he enjoyed hunting and horseback riding.

While a university student in Mexico City, Miguel vacationed in Chicago, IL where he met and fell in love with Dolores. Miguel and Dolores celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 2019, with a party attended by friends and family. Upon Miguel’s passing his devoted wife of 62 years was at his bedside.

Miguel and Dolores started a family in Chicago where they lived until 1976, when Miguel’s employer, Hall Printing, built a plant in Corinth, MS. Miguel and Dolores moved their family to Corinth, where Miguel remained in the printing industry until he retired in 1998.

Soon after Miguel retired, he and Dolores relocated to Springfield, TN to be near the bulk of their grandchildren. Miguel left Corinth with an abundance of appreciation and fond memories. Miguel was a fantastic grandparent giving generously of his time, resources, and love to his grandchildren–those who lived nearby and those who he saw far less than he would have liked. While Miguel’s love for his children was without question, his adoration of his grandchildren was borderline ridiculous—and his grandchildren and their parents remain extremely grateful.

While in Springfield, Miguel became active in the community, especially at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he and Dolores attended regularly. Miguel, an immigrant himself, who proudly became a Naturalized United States Citizen, was a leader in the Hispanic community in Springfield, where he worked diligently to assist Hispanic families. Miguel was very grateful to those he worked with that welcomed good hardworking people with open and caring hearts.

Miguel is survived by his wife, Dolores, of Springfield, TN; his children Miguel, III (Margaret) of Richmond, VA, Lisa, of Manchester, TN, David (Caroline), of Madison, TN, Herman Christy), of Springfield, TN, Chris, of Nashville, TN, and James (Amy), of Franklin, TN; his grandchildren Gabriel, Brady, Brendan, Isabel, Nadia, Lizzie, Dean, Gabriella, Noah, and Max; and his sisters Maria Elena and Graciela.

Miguel is predeceased by his parents, Miguel and Maria Teresa; his brother, Pedro; and his grandson, Nathaniel.

Visitation for Miguel Diaz-Barriga will be on Thursday, March 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7 p.m., at the Robertson County Funeral Home.
