Michael Gregory Smith, 71, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield. His remains will be cremated and there will be a Celebration of Life at a future date.

Mike was born May 20, 1950, in Oskaloosa, IA. He was a retired equipment operator in construction, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam war. Mike was a Christian and a former member of both the American Legion and the VFW. Over the years, he had performed in plays with the Robertson County Players, but primarily did much of the set construction. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR fan.

Mike was preceded in death by his father: Wendell Smith, by his son: Denver Smith, and by his brother: Tom Smith.

Mike is survived by his wife of 29 years: Connie Seay Smith of Springfield, by his daughters: Melissa Smith (Wayne) Woolery of Wister, OK, and Ashlee Smith Lydiard of Texas, by his mother: Helen Masterson Smith of Oskaloosa, IA, by his stepchildren: Ted Smith of Murfreesboro, Andrea Smith (Thomas) Bauer of Virginia, and Vanessa Smith Neal of McMinnville, by his brother: Ron Smith of Hendersonville, by his sisters: Deb (Tom) Lang of Oskaloosa, IA, and Cheryl Smith of Altoona, IA, by his grandchildren: Evan (Ashley) Weathers and Kenedi Loar, by his step-grandchildren: Emma Harrietha, Lizzie Harrietha, Presley Smith, Everett Smith, Willow Neal, and Vader Neal, and by his great-grandchildren: Ryan Mode and Forest Weathers.
