James Earl Freeland, 85, of Cross Plains, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center.

Mr. Freeland was born on December 13, 1936 in Cross Plains, Tn. to the late Jewell Henry Freeland and Agnes Murrah Freeland. He was a graduate of Cross Plains High School Class of 1954, a retired tool and die quality control inspector with Goddard/Goddard and Carmel and was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cross Plains where he was deacon emeritus. He was also a farmer who excelled at raising pumpkins. He really enjoyed meeting and talking with people while selling pumpkins at Freeland Farm in Cross Plains. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Freeland served throughout the years with a servant’s heart in multiple Bible centered ministries that include Royal Ambassadors, Sunday School, Prayer Groups, Stone Soup, deacon ministry, homebound visitations, and community outreach sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Martha Sue Traughber Freeland of whom he was married almost 60 years, his son: James Brian Freeland, his brother Richard Murrah Freeland and sisters: Martha Freeland Hackney and Nancy Jean Freeland and granddaughter: Gabrielle Freeland.

Mr. Freeland is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Stephen and Tina Freeland of Orlinda, Brent and Sabrina Freeland of Farragut, Tn, Debbie Freeland of Burlington, KY, by his grandchildren: Hannah, Brock, Corinne, Emma, Jessica, and Olivia Freeland, Elijah and Olivia Stewart.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, March 28th at 1:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Russ Noss officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Kevin Clinard, Kenny Swann, Joe Swann, Wayne Leding, Samuel Osborne, and Brock Freeland serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and Monday from 11-1 p.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cross Plains.
