James “Jimmy” Homa Stack, Sr., passed away at age 72 on October 4, 2021 after battling amyloidosis for the past year.

He is survived by his two sons, Jimmy Jr. (James H. Stack. Jr). and Brian (Michael Brian Stack). He is also survived by his brother, JT Adkins, sister, Betty Jo Cross, and brother, Johnny Stack.

Jimmy was born on December 29, 1948 in Clarksville, Tennessee to the late James Thomas and Mary Annis Stack and grew up in Chapmansboro. Jimmy dedicated his professional life to the Cheatham County School System where he was a student and then a teacher, coach, and bus driver. He started his career in 1971 and taught at Ashland City Elementary School, Pleasant View Elementary School, and his alma mater, Cheatham County Central High School. While Head Coach for the Cubs, Jimmy led the team to their first two state playoff appearances in the school’s history. He was chosen High School Teacher of the Year in 1991. In 1992, Jimmy was elected Cheatham County Superintendent and was re-elected in 1996. He was the first appointed Director of Schools in 2000 and served on the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents’ Board of Directors. Jimmy retired from public service in 2001 but has since been recognized many times for his service to the community, including being recently selected to the Cheatham County Education Hall of Fame. The CCCHS Class of 1985 dedicated the Echo yearbook to “Our Coach” Jimmy Stack. His love for high school football and University of Tennessee football will always be remembered.

There will be a private celebration of life for his immediate family and close friends. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Amyloidosis Foundation (www.amyloidosis.org).
