Shirley, age 75 of Springfield, passed away October 4th at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Shirley Ann Garrett on September 6, 1946 in Boca Raton, Florida to the late Warren and Theda Garrett. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from David Lipscomb and a Master’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene.
Shirley worked for over 36 years as a Metro-Davidson County teacher finishing her career at Joelton Elementary School. She had a passion for teaching children and watching them learn new things.
Shirley married the love of her life and best friend Bob Finney on October 4, 1971. After her retirement in 2006, Shirley spent her new free time with her family and especially her three grandsons. She enjoyed painting, quilting, and curling up with a good book.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Gabriel.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, James Robert Finney; sons, Robert Garrett (Amanda) Finney and James Alan (Elizabeth) Finney; grandsons, Mason Garrett Finney, James Layton Finney, and Walker Bennett Finney; sister, Connie (Bob) Smith and a loving extended family.
A Life Celebration will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Springfield Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until the time of service.
