Retired Lieutenant Colonel Robert Floyd “Bob” Fletcher, Jr., 71, of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Bob was born on April 17, 1952, in Springfield, to the late Robert F. and Martha Sanford Fletcher, Sr.

He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1970. Bob went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In 2012, he received his master’s degree in Applied Engineering and Technology Management from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having been a retired Lieutenant Colonel with a total of 28 years of service. Bob spent his lifetime working, starting out on his family dairy farm, known as Roma Land Farms, that was in the Youngville community that he loved so much. He was currently employed as an Environmental Consultant with the Department of Environment and Conservation with the State of Tennessee.

Bob was a member of First Baptist Church of Joelton, where he taught Sunday School from 2006 to 2022, and where he served as a deacon. He and his wife, Betty, owned and operated Roma Land Florist and Gifts in Joelton for 24 years. Bob remodeled the house that Roma Land Florist operated out of and where they both loved being a part of the Joelton community.

He always enjoyed supporting the Fort Campbell Little Soldier Tree Program out of Ft. Campbell, KY, where Roma Land Florist served as a drop-off site collecting toys for deployed soldier’s children. Additionally, one year, they collected 505 shoeboxes from the Joelton and surrounding communities for the deployed soldiers in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Bob was involved with the Robertson County 4-H program throughout his lifetime. He also served as the Director of the Robertson County EMS for two years and was a volunteer fire fighter for many of his younger years. Besides working, he also enjoyed spending time with his family, serving at his church, and woodworking. Bob was always a people person—he enjoyed traveling, teaching, working with others, and just meeting people on his daily walk of life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Charlotte Sanford Fletcher.

Bob leaves 33 years of cherished love to his wife: Betty Young Fletcher of Springfield, his daughters: Alexis Fletcher Biggs and husband Jonathan of Springfield, and Ashland Fletcher of Springfield, and by his brother: Brian A. Fletcher and wife Joyce of Cleveland, TN.
