Gwendolyn-Sue-Robertson-Frey

Gwendolyn Sue Robertson Frey, age 89, of Springfield, TN concluded the final chapter of her earthly life on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

She was met at Heaven’s gate by her husband Glenn M. Frey, parents Belle and R.C. “Bob” Robertson, siblings Bobbie R. Roth and Lennis Robertson, and son-in-law Don Hollingsworth.

Born in Knoxville, TN, as the middle child to Belle and Bob, her childhood was spent getting into mischief with her older siblings and then teaching her younger siblings those ropes. The stories they share are only accidentally passed down and always met with roaring laughter.

After graduating from Fulton High School, the Robertson family moved to Paducah, KY, where Sue began working as a telephone switchboard operator and met her husband, Glenn. Married in Springfield in 1954, this is the place she would spend the rest of her days.

Mama Sue to the neighborhood kids, later replaced by Mimi to her grandchildren and their friends, and always Mrs. Sue to the generations of children and parents that she loved and nurtured at her church’s, Main Street church of Christ, Mom’s Day Out program. She was one of the original members of the Mom’s Day Out staff, a badge she wore proudly, and could be found joining in other programs at the church too. From

Mexico mission trips to most recently the clothing room, her faith was deeply woven into life, and she was quite fond of being at the church every time the doors were open.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Glenda Hollingsworth of Springfield; sons Robert (Lana) Frey of Goodlettsville and Glenn (Kathy) Frey of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Patricia Hart of High Point, NC, Rosemary (John) Adams of Loudon and Judy Elliott of Knoxville; grandchildren Suzann Hollingsworth, Kendall (Brody) Wooton, Corbitt (Audrey) Hollingsworth, Mary Glenn (Marc) Fatton, Morgan Frey, Connor Frey Paige Frey, and Brooke Barrett; great-grandchildren, Ava, Grady, Tilly, Emery Cate, Spencer, and one on the way; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends that she considered family.

Visitation with the family will be at Robertson County Funeral Home on Friday from 4 until 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM with Brother Joe Rushing and Brother Barry Throneberry officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Corbitt Hollingsworth, Connor Frey, Matt Roth, Brian Hart, Marc Fatton, and Brady Wooton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces.

The family request, if so desired, for memorial contributions to be made to the Main Street Church of Christ Building Fund. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.
