A Sumner County jury has convicted a Millersville man of grooming and sexually abusing a young child over a period of more than two years.
According to the Sumner County District Attorney’s Office, 29-year-old Ian Dakota Jarrett was found guilty following a three-day trial in Sumner County Criminal Court.
Prosecutors said the investigation began in November 2024 after the victim disclosed the abuse to a trusted adult, who immediately contacted the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. The agency then launched an investigation with the Millersville Police Department.
Evidence presented during the trial showed Jarrett began grooming the child when the victim was 8 years old, with the abuse continuing for more than two years before it was reported, prosecutors said.
Former Millersville Police Detective Michael Candler led the investigation, and Jarrett was arrested after being indicted by a Sumner County grand jury in January 2025.
Assistant District Attorneys Tara Wyllie and Nathan Nichols prosecuted the case. Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
