The YMCA Foundation of Middle Tennessee has presented its highest philanthropic honor to a couple recognized for decades of support, volunteer leadership and contributions to children and families across the region.
The H.G. Hill Jr. Philanthropic Award was presented to David and Cindy Wilds during the YMCA’s annual Celebration of Philanthropy on Sept. 29.
David Wilds has been a YMCA member for more than 50 years and has spent the past 25 years volunteering and supporting the organization. He previously served on the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s board of directors as treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee.
His leadership helped guide the organization through challenges and periods of growth, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
The couple has also supported military families by providing camp scholarships for children of Special Forces and Night Stalker service members, helping them attend YMCA camps.
“David and Cindy have invested their time, leadership, and resources to strengthen this organization and expand its impact,” said Cal Turner Jr., a former YMCA of Middle Tennessee board chair and friend of the couple.
David Wilds is the founder and managing partner of First Avenue Partners, where he remains involved in managing private equity investments. His previous roles include serving as CEO of The Family Office for 19 years and working as a partner at J.C. Bradford & Company.
The foundation also recognized philanthropist MacKenzie Scott during the event, marking five years since her $18 million unrestricted gift to the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. The donation was the largest in the organization’s history and helped the YMCA maintain services, retain staff and continue serving communities during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The H.G. Hill Jr. Philanthropic Award recognizes individuals whose generosity, leadership and vision create lasting community impact.
