The White House Fire Department has reached a milestone by graduating its first-ever class from an in-house fire academy, with four new firefighters completing 12 weeks of hands-on training.
Danny Ward, Alex Valentine, Dalton Heath and Matthew MacNaughton successfully completed the academy developed and conducted by the department.
The recruits were selected after nearly 40 candidates participated in the department’s annual testing process earlier this year. The turnout marked the largest in the department’s history.
During the 12-week academy, the recruits trained in fire behavior, building construction, vehicle extrication and emergency medical operations, along with physical challenges designed to prepare them for the demands of firefighting.
The department also recognized its training chief, instructors and other firefighters for helping develop and carry out the first academy, which was tailored to the needs of White House and its fire department.
