Young hunters ages 6-16 can participate in Tennessee’s first young sportsman deer hunt of the season Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency allows youth to hunt with a gun, muzzleloader or archery equipment during the special weekend.
Hunters must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult who is at least 21 years old. The adult must stay close enough to take immediate control of the hunting equipment and follow the required fluorescent orange or pink clothing rules.
Children ages 6-9 do not need a hunting license or hunter education certification. Youth ages 10-12 must meet hunter education requirements or have an apprentice license. Those ages 13-15 must also have a junior hunting license, while 16-year-olds need the appropriate adult licenses.
The statewide gun, muzzleloader and archery deer season opens Nov. 21 and runs through Jan. 3, 2027. The second young sportsman deer hunt is scheduled for Jan. 9-10.
