Springfield Gas Department to Conduct Annual Leak Survey on April 18th

505

The Springfield Gas Department will begin its annual leak survey on Thursday, April 18, 2022.

The Springfield Gas Department will be conducting a quality control survey of the natural gas system to ensure public safety and the proper operation of the gas lines and meters. Gas mains and business districts are surveyed annually and customer services are surveyed once every five years. This is part of a routine safety practice required by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).

A typical leak survey is performed by a technician who uses a leak-detecting device and walks or drives over the gas main located in the street or alley, then to your gas meter. The technician will require access to a portion of your yard, depending on the distance and location of the service line and meter. A typical survey does not require digging and generally lasts a few minutes.

The Springfield Gas Department has contracted with Mid-South to complete the survey and meter inspection. Vehicles operated by Mid-South will have signs on the vehicle identifying the company. City personnel and contractors will have identification with them. If you have any questions, please call the Springfield Gas Department at 615-382-1621.

It is anticipated this work will be completed by May 16, 2022, pending any weather delays.
