The Springfield Board of Mayor & Aldermen met for the regularly called meeting on December 19, 2023. Highlights include:

– Ordinance 23-29 was approved on first reading. Ordinance 23-29 would increase residential monthly electric bills by $3.13 due to a recent credit elimination by TVA and inflationary costs.

– Ordinance 23-40 was approved on first reading. Ordinance 23-40 would rezone multiple parcels on Blackpatch Drive from RS10/RS20 to R7 with a Planned Unit Development overlay for Summit View Subdivision.

– Resolution 23-33 was approved, which included an Economic Impact Plan for the Shops at Mooreland development area as requested by the Springfield Industrial Development Board.

– City Attorney, Christy Bartee, was appointed the Code of Ethics Administrator as required by Public Chapter 37 (2023).

– A contract to employ Croft and Associates, LLC. to oversee easements for the Wartrace Creek Interceptor project was approved. The project scope is the installation of 8,880 L.F. of sewer pipe along Wartrace Creek. The new line will provide additional capacity for the sewer basin in the area.

– The monthly electric fuel cost adjustment increased by 1.7%, resulting in a $2.03 to $3.18 increase in the average residential electric bill, depending on usage. The monthly gas department purchase adjustment decreased by 8.2%. Both of these are market adjustments that the suppliers dictate monthly.

Regularly called meetings of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen include a public comment period. The public comment period provides the public with the opportunity to comment on matters that are pertinent to the items on the agenda for a meeting.
