Nashville Predators: Loss 5-2
The Nashville Predators took on the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the first round of the NHL Playoffs. The Predators got the scoring going first as Filip Forsberg scored the first goal of the game in the first period. The Canes would answer that goal in just under two minutes with a shot from Pesce. At the end of the first period and both teams had a goal.
The second period was dominated early by the Hurricanes, and they added a second goal by their captain Staal. The Predators’ Erik Haula would add the equalizer later in the second period and the game was tied again at 2 goals apiece. The second period would end with the game tied again at 2-2.
The third period saw the Hurricanes continue to put the pressure on as they added an early goal from Neiderreiter to make it 3-2 Hurricanes. Later in the third period, the Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal added his second goal of the night. The Canes led 4-2 halfway through the third period. In a last-ditch effort to get things going, the Predators pulled goalie Juuse Saros to get an extra attacker on the ice, however, the Hurricanes turned it into an empty-net goal making the final score 5-2.
Atlanta Braves: Loss 3-1
The Atlanta Braves faced off against the New York Mets last night in their first meeting of the season. Both sides brought their ace games on the mound as the game was scoreless through six innings. In fact, the Braves lone hit of the game from starting pitcher Max Fried in the third inning (Fried would later leave after what looked like an injury to his pitching hand).
Then in the seventh inning, the Mets got the scoring started with an RBI double by McCann and then a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch later in the inning. The Mets led 2-0. Then, in the eighth inning, Fargas doubled and scored Nido making it 3- 0 Mets.
The Braves refused to be shut out though as Austin Riley hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to try and get the rally started for the Braves. That would be the only scoring of the Braves though as the rally did not follow. The Mets won 3-1.
Cincinnati Reds: Loss 6-3
The Cincinnati Reds battled the San Francisco Giants in game one of the series. The Giants scored a run in the first inning after a throwing error by India. It would stay 1-0 Giants until the fourth inning when the Giants added to their lead. Flores homered with a man on to push the lead to 3-0.
Over the next two innings both Yastrzemski and Dubòn both homered increasing the Giant lead to 5-0. It would stay 5-0 until the seventh inning when finally, the Reds crossed the plate with an RBI single from Winker. San Fran would plate another run making it 6-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning. The Reds would hit back-to-back home runs to make it a 6-3 game. That would be how the game ended as neither team scored in the ninth inning.
