The Robertson County Senior Center (RCSC), located at 601 Locust Street in Springfield, is a place where seniors can have fun, make new friends, find necessary services, and gain important information. They are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. during the winter months of January, February and March. If schools are closed, then the center will close.
Founded in 1976 by a group of senior citizens, it has been located in the old Payne Chevrolet Building since 1981. The building was built in 1936, and was purchased by the RCSC for $15,000 from the City of Springfield. Because of its central location near downtown, it has become a great place for seniors to go for a meal, activities, health services and more.
According to their website, their mission is, “To advocate for and serve our senior population in a manner which will validate an individual’s desire for freedom and dignity and offer to them opportunities to continue to participate in and serve society.”
One popular activity is the lunch they serve on site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday thanks to Meals on Wheels through Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency. Any senior adults age 60 and above are eligible to come and enjoy a hot meal, however donations are accepted for the meal. It has become a place where seniors come to enjoy fellowship, and often stay for another activity.
Anyone over the age of 50 is eligible to become a member. There is a $25 annual participant fee that is collected each July, but veterans are exempt. There are additional fees for trips and outings, celebrations, and special events. However, no one is turned away because they cannot pay.
They offer different activities every day of the week. Here is the current schedule:

There are also lots of other activities, like dinner dances, potlucks, shopping, and game nights with local youth groups. Another thing they offer is health activities, like toenail cutting.
RCSC is always looking for volunteers to teach classes — like acting, drawing, painting, technology and more. Volunteers allow them to stretch their limited budget and offer their members more diverse activities.
Primarily funded by the Greater National Regional Council (GNRC), the RCSC also receives financial support from Robertson County Government; the City of Springfield and the City of Adams; grants; sponsorships from local residents, organizations and businesses; and fundraising events. Plus they receive earmarked funds from Stokes Brown Foundation.
