William Earl “Bill” Benton, 87, of the Owens Chapel community in Springfield, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Owens Chapel Cemetery with Casey Buck, Bud Benton, Josh Benton, Steve Meyer, Brandon Weaver, Mike Meyer, and Shane Brown serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Benton was born January 12, 1935, in Nashville, TN to the late Frank Porter and Ola Hicks Benton.

He served as a mechanic in the Army National Guard and was a retired Engineer with Ford Glass. Mr. Benton loved woodworking, building computers, and metal detecting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Carrole Jane Rowette Benton, by his granddaughter: Emily Ann Benton, and by his siblings: Betty Gibson and Tommy Benton.

Mr. Benton is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Richard Earl and Carol Benton of Springfield, Joseph Frank and Cindy Benton of Springfield, by his daughter and son-in-law: Bethany Jane and Michael Lampley of Dickson, by his grandchildren: Amy Jo Meyer, Joshua Benton, William “Bud” Benton, Benjamin Woods, Julian Joy Weaver, and Casey D. Buck, by his great-grandchildren: Mike Meyer, Emily Paige Pentecost, Aniya Woods, Isabella Buck, Paisley Jane Weaver, Elijah Buck, and Bryson Benton, by his great-great-grandchild: Aurora Madison Meyer, by his brothers and sister-in-law: Bobby Benton of Greenbrier, David and Tammy Benton of Kentucky, and by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Judy and Larry Brown of Portland, Linda and Doug Darby of Indiana.
