Van Stokes Orman, 89, of Springfield, transitioned to Heaven on January 21, 2022, following an extended illness.

He was born November 26, 1932, in Nashville to the late Lyman F. and Georgia Mae Pitt Orman.

Van grew up in Springfield. After graduating from Springfield High School, he was soon called to serve in the United States Air Force and was sent to the Korean War. He served at Kempo Air Base and later at Shaw Air Base.

After returning to Springfield, he married Susan English. Van began a career as a partner in Orman Oil Company with his brother-in-law, Glenn Hollingsworth, and they operated the Phillips jobership in Robertson County from 1966 until 1996. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church for 73 years. Van was a member of the Springfield Optimist Club, where he was a former club president and was also the coach of the club’s little league baseball team, the Braves, for many years. He was a person who loved and cared for his entire family, and he will be greatly missed by his friends and his extended Pleasant View family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son: Christopher Orman, by his brother: James “Bud” Orman, and by his sisters: Marjorie Hollingsworth and Betty Dorris.

Van is survived by his wife of 60 years: Susan English Orman of Springfield, by his daughter and son-in-law: Shannon and David Dorris of Cedar Hill, by his grandchildren: Christopher Eli Orman and Madison Grace Orman, by his great-grandchildren: Christopher and Wren Elizabeth, by his former daughter-in-law: Nancy Kinsella of Pleasant View, and by his brother-in-law: Glenn Hollingsworth of Springfield.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 26th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home. A private burial will be held in the Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, January 27th.

If so desired, the family request memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Wounded Warrior Project. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.
