Robert Eugene “Bob” Speer, age 91, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at NHC Springfield.
Mr. Speer was born July 9, 1932 in Kress, TX to the late Verden Elmo Speer and Melissa Ellen Runnels Speer.
He was an Accountant with Timex Watch Company most of his life. Mr. Speer had a love for everyone and never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. Mr. Speer and his wife Jody had 7 foster children throughout their years living in Abilene, TX, and taught Asian students to improve their conversational English by using the Bible while living in Buffalo, NY.
Mr. Speer served on the Board at Timothy Hill Childrens Ranch in Riverhead, NY, and was an Elder at Amherst Church of Christ in Amherst, NY and at Stamford Church of Christ in Stamford, CT. He was a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Springfield.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Speer was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Ray Speer; sister, Rosanel Speer Payne; and son-in-law, Peter Dunbar Salter.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jody Speer; sons, David Lynn Speer and partner Fay Hallmark, and Daniel Glen (Linda) Speer; daughter, Cynthia Diane Salter; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
