Reverend Jerry Heflin, age 89, a faithful servant of the Lord, finished his race and entered eternity on October 7, 2026, at his home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
Jerry was born on October 27, 1936, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Jacob and Iva Heflin. He served in the U.S. Army with the 11th Airborne Division in Clarksville, Tennessee, and Germany. While serving in Clarksville, Jerry met his beloved wife and lifelong companion, Jeraldene Pitt. They were married on December 4, 1954, and shared 71 years of marriage, family, and ministry together.
Jerry answered God’s call to preach in April 1953. He devoted his life to preaching, teaching, counseling, and mentoring others. He taught at Springfield High School and East Robertson High School, and later served as a teacher and Dean of Students at Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy (now The King’s Academy) in Seymour, Tennessee.
Jerry’s life was defined by his unwavering faith, his love for the Lord and His Word, his compassion, his generosity, his dedication to serving others, and his desire to see people come to Christ. He served in pastoral and teaching ministries throughout Middle and East Tennessee.
For 14 years, he led mission teams to Temuco, Chile, assisting with the construction of an orphanage and a church. He also worked with prison ministries and led mission teams to Michigan and Eastern Kentucky.
Jerry’s legacy of faith will continue through his children: Ross Heflin; Kent Heflin (Leanne); Dawn King (Mike); and Starr Taylor (Chris); as well as his nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
