Mamie (Gainous) Hester

Mamie Gainous Hester, 89, of Springfield, departed this life on Friday, December 31, 2021, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 5th at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Smith officiating. Graveside committal services will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Wayne Carlisle, Nick Bryant, Ian Atwood, Matt Harris, Mark Stone, and Josh Lambert. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Ms. Mamie was born June 20, 1932, in Logan County, KY to the late Tolly Newton Gainous and the late Geneva Hardaway Gainous Sharp. She was a member of North Springfield Baptist Church. Ms. Mamie worked from time to time in childcare, but she was always happy being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She loved sewing, collecting bird figurines, and reading, especially her Bible. Ms. Mamie loved the Lord and loved being a Sunday School teacher for both children and adults for over 50 years of her life. Being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren was always the desire of her heart, and she took great pride in her family and loved each one of them dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ardell Hester, by her brothers: Fred, Jesse, and Joe Gainous, by her son-in-law: R.L. Binkley, by her daughter-in-law: Margaret Hester, and by her great-great-grandchild: Charles B. Whited, Jr.

Ms. Mamie is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Lanny Hester of Greenbrier, Jackie and Myra Jean Hester of Cedar Hill, by her daughters and son-in-law: Sue Binkley of Springfield, Janie and Larry Perry of Cedar Hill, by her sister: Margaret Sowell of Auburn, KY, by her sister-in-law: Sylvia Gainous of Greenbrier, and by her 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
