Jesse Wayne “Gurby” Fuqua, age 72 of Springfield, Tennessee passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

He was born on September 28, 1949, to the late Jesse Caleb and Ruth O’Neal Fuqua. Jesse was a 1967 graduate of East Robertson High School.

Jesse was described as a caring and giving man that worked hard for his family. For many years Jesse worked as an over the road truck driver for companies like CMT, MTV, TNT and TNN. Together for 10 years, Jesse and Sherry worked as a OTR team drivers for South West Motor Team. The last 5 years he spent working for his nephew at Square 1 Construction.

In Jesse’s spare time you could find him watching NASCAR or Alabama football in his garage, watching the sunset while grilling dinner for his family or camping at Cedar Creek. He enjoyed spending time at “The Office” with friends or at the VFW events with his brothers. Through it all, Gurby was a good man that loved his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jesse is preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Fuqua and Joe Fuqua.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sherry Fuqua; children, Jack (Tracey) Fuqua, Jay Fuqua, Rusty (Chelsea) Fuqua and Traci (Randy) Miles; grandchildren, Chasity (Brian) Felts, Chelsey Miles, Dawson Fuqua, Gracey Fuqua and Gabi Fuqua; great-grandchildren, Avery Belt, Bentley Felts, Chalyn Felts, Kinzley Clouse and CJ Clouse; Siblings, Ronnie (Sandra) Fuqua, Earl (Diane) Fuqua; Sisters, Joyce (David) Robertson, Sue (Jimmy) Simpkins, James “Rabbit” Evans and Joe Eden; brother-in-law, Rusty (Brenda) Burks; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Clouse and Denise Hall.

A Life Celebration will be held on Friday, September 9th at 2 pm with Brother Joe Eden officiating. Burial will follow at Owens Chapel Cemetery with Rusty Fuqua, Jack Fuqua, Ronnie Fuqua, Earl Fuqua, Caleb Fuqua, Andy Robertson, Mike Fuqua, Ricky West, Randy Miles, and Brian Felts; honorary pallbearers, Rusty Burks, James “Rabbit” Evans, Joe Eden, Mike Tucker and VFW 2120.

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, September 8th from 4-8 pm then again on Friday from 12-2 pm at Springfield Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VFW Post 2120.
