Jerry Wayne Chowning, 81, of Cedar Hill, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Mr. Chowning was born July 5, 1941, in Cross Plains, to the late Cleo and Velma Powell Chowning.

He was a retired diesel mechanic, a member of the Teamster’s Union, and a member of Center Point Baptist Church. Mr. Chowning enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, and both flower and vegetable gardening. He learned to can tomatoe’s and enjoyed telling everyone that “he canned them”. His family loved them, especially the grandchildren as that called them “Granddaddy’s Canned Tomato’s”.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlights of his life and each of them always knew they could go to Granddaddy for their individual packs of M&M’s.

Mr. Chowning is survived by his wife of 54 years: Helen Gober Chowning of Cedar Hill, by his daughter: Stacey Renee Chowning of Cedar Hill, by his sons and daughter-in-law: Gary Wayne Chowning of Cedar Hill, Terry Dwayne and Crystal Chowning of Springfield, by his brothers and sister-in-law: Billy Joe and Juanita Chowning of Gallatin, Jimmy Chowning of Elkton, KY, by his sisters and brother-in-law: Betty Elmore of Springfield, Linda and Wilburn Beal of Springfield, and by those that outranked everybody else, his grandchildren, Matthew Chowning, Emily Chowning, Dustin Chowning, Brandon Chowning, and his six great-grandchildren with number 7 soon arriving in February of 2023.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, November 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Greenbrier Cemetery with Reverend Steve Pendley officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Chowning, Dustin Chowning, Brandon Chowning, Todd Bush, Kevin Chowning, and Gavin Wolf. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service. For those desiring to go in procession with the family to the cemetery, please gather at Robertson County Funeral Home, as the procession will leave approximately at 10:30 a.m.
