Gloria Faye Pollard Murphy, age 88, of Springfield, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023 at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Mrs. Murphy was born December 5, 1934, in Cedar Hill, TN to the late Robert Hensley and Willie Mae Pollard.

She attended Cedar Hill Baptist Church as a child and gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 10, thus beginning her lifelong service at her church where she continued faithful attendance until her death.

She was a member of the closely-knit Jo Byrns High School class of 1952 where she was a cheerleader and co-captain of the Jo Byrns High Lady’s basketball team. She married Billy Murphy following graduation and began their family together in 1955 with the birth of Bill. They were married 59 years at the time of Billy’s death in 2011.

Gloria served as a bank teller with First National Bank in Springfield for many years and considered her co-workers her extended family and her loyal customers friends.

She relished time with family remaining very active and involved in all activities the children and grandchildren participated in. She served others sacrificially with southern charm and grace always delivering a handmade gift or a delicious treat.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Murphy Sr.; great-granddaughter, Daisy Young; and a sister, Barbara Edgin.

She is survived by a son, William C. (Kathy) Murphy Jr.; daughters, Dianne (Billy) Seeley, and Melissa (Greg) Young; 8 grandchildren, Karly (Brandon) Dodd, Kady (Matthew) Stewart, Will Seeley, Jake (Campbell) Seeley, Natalie (Daniel) Morris, Blake (Grace) Young, McKenzie (David) Roy, and Ashley Young; 4 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way, Murphy, Cason, Ruby, Lily, and Liam.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 pm Wednesday, July 12th at Cedar Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Eric Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Will Seeley, Jake Seeley, Matthew Stewart, Brandon Dodd, Bill Murphy, and Greg Young serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Tuesday, at the church, and again from 10 am until the time of the service at 12 pm Wednesday at the church.
