Elizabeth Anne Garrett Murphy, 93, of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday, January 26, 2024, at The Arbors at Springfield Heights.

Mrs. Murphy was born July 18, 1930, in Springfield, to the late Taylor and Bonnie Murphy Garrett.

She was a graduate of Barren Plains High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University. Mrs. Murphy taught school for the Robertson County Board of Education for many years and was teaching at Cheatham Park Elementary at the time of her retirement.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Robertson County Education Association, the Tennessee Education Association, and was a member of Woodland Street United Methodist Church, where she served as the church pianist for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Murphy enjoyed reading, playing the piano, cooking, and watching her hummingbirds.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Billy Mart Murphy, by her son: Joseph Mart Murphy, by her daughter: Anne Taylor Murphy Garner, and by her sister: Bonnie Jean Garrett McIntosh.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her daughters: Lucy Ellen Murphy and husband Ernest Spain of Waldorf, MD, and Margaret Jean Murphy Thompson of Springfield, by her grandchildren: Jody Thompson and wife Jenifer, Tori Sherer and husband Brandon, Marty Spain and wife Dee, and by her great-grandchildren: Ainsley Spain, Nolan, Mason, and Gracie Thompson, Rylan and Aybree Sherer.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 30th at 12:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Jody Thompson, Nolan Thompson, Mason Thompson, Ernest Spain, Marty Spain, and Brandon Sherer serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. https://www.robertsoncountyfuneralhome.com
