Rev. Douglas Eugene Downing, age 95, of Adams, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living in Clarksville.
Mr. Downing was born February 2, 1927 in Lyon County, KY to the late Robert Lee and Eliza Jane Sikes Downing.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran having served during WWII and was a retired Baptist Minister, pastoring for over 60 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Downing was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bourne Downing, 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
Bro. Downing is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Charles) Butts; 7 grandchildren, Tyler (Lauren) Estep, Jordan (Megan) Estep, Calob (Trisha) Butts, Jessica (Daniel) Cunningham, Amanda (Mack) Clayton, Emily Lepper and Stephanie Standridge; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Monday in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Tyler Estep and Bro. Jordan Estep officiating. Burial will follow in the Bellwood Cemetery with Steve Haley, Paul Sholar, Ricky Poor, Neil Bourne, Buddy Bourne and Mark Bourne serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Downing’s nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-6 pm Sunday and again from 11 am until time of the service at 1 pm Monday at the funeral home.
