Dorris Alfred Cherry of Springfield, TN died July 27, 2021 at age 94. He was born in Stewart County on January 4, 1927, a son of the late Ora Bryant and Dorris Clay Cherry.
He was employed at Cumberland Electric for 36 years, and upon retirement worked as a ranger at the Legacy Golf Course in Springfield.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He was a Methodist.
A lover of books and the outdoors, he enjoyed all sports and was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, and gardener. He will best be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky Cherry of Springfield; daughters Jo Ann Luecke (Lucky) of Murfreesboro, TN Betsy Pierce (Rick) of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren, Sean Luecke, Tiffany Robbins (Will), Barclay Hawley (Aaron), and Shelley Williams (Chris); brother Billy Clay Cherry.
In honor of Mr. Cherry, contributions may be made to the Stokes Brown Library in Springfield where he was an avid reader.
A celebration of life with family and friends will be at First United Methodist Church in Springfield Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 1 pm until 3 pm.
