Coach Harold Franklin Swinea, age 89 of Springfield, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his home.
He was born February 10, 1934 in Union City, TN to John Emmett & Evelyn Bardill Swinea.
He was employed as a coach and educator at Goodlettsville High School for 37 years. He coached tennis, wrestling and football and taught special education children.
He also loved farming and gardening, fishing, riding motorcycles and raising cattle. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during Korea and was of the Methodist faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merle Swinea; sisters, Frances Littrell, Dot Warren and Margaret McNeal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn Swinea; son, Hal (Claudia) Swinea; daughter, Lynne (Dixie) Braswell, all of Springfield, TN 5 grandchildren, Rachael (Robert}, Ace (Shyloh), Seth (Claire), Ian (Heather} and Erin (Tim); 3 great-grandchildren, Austin, Ethan and Lucian; 1 great-grandchild, Grayson.
A private family burial will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11 am on the family farm with Seth Swinea, Shyloh Timmermeier, Ian Swinea, Ethan Murray, Austin Murray and Lucian Murray serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Fitzgerald Swinea, Colt Murray, Dawson Braswell, Corey Braswell, Chris Braswell, Tyler Braswell and Tim Porter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Owens Chapel Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date and this obituary will be updated when those arrangements are finalized.
