OBITUARY: Bobby Gene Benton


Bobby Gene Benton, 83, of Greenbrier, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Mr. Benton was born February 7, 1939, in Springfield to the late Frank Porter and Ola Hicks Benton.

He was a retired loader at Armstrong/Pirelli Tires, was a member of the Over the Hill Motorcycle Gang and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Benton enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially his Harley, Car Racing, especially his Shelby Snake, going to car shows, and he owned and operated Bobby’s Motorcycle Shop for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Betty Jo Gibson.

Mr. Benton is survived by his children: Tonia (Kevin) Threadgill of Chapel Hill, Michael Eugene (Amy) Benton of Waverly, and Tammy Rene (Robert) James of Brentwood, by his siblings: Judy (Larry) Brown of Portland, Linda Faye (Doug) Darby of Indiana, David Wayne (Tammy) Benton of Kentucky, and Donald Ray Benton of Florida, and by his seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dale Swearingen officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
