The Music City Grand Prix will not return to Middle Tennessee in 2027, the event confirmed on social media.
The NTT IndyCar Series released its 2027 racing schedule on Friday, October 23, confirming that Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon will not host a race next year.
The decision ends a three-year run at Nashville Superspeedway as organizers focus on bringing the popular race back to downtown Nashville.
The Music City Grand Prix debuted in 2021, with IndyCar drivers racing through downtown Nashville on a street course near Nissan Stadium. The event remained downtown through 2023 before relocating to Nashville Superspeedway in 2024 because of construction around the Tennessee Titans’ new stadium.
Borchetta, founder of Big Machine Records and the namesake behind the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix, confirmed the decision.
In comments to racing publication RACER, Borchetta thanked Speedway Motorsports and Nashville Superspeedway for hosting the event over the past three years while emphasizing the organization’s original vision of creating a major downtown racing destination.
Borchetta said organizers want the race to become the “Monaco of the South,” adding that focusing resources on returning downtown is essential to making that vision a reality.
He also said IndyCar and television partner FOX remain interested in bringing the event back to downtown Nashville.
The 2027 IndyCar schedule includes 17 races, including the Grand Prix of Barcelona in Spain on July 18.
Although the Music City Grand Prix will be absent from next year’s schedule, organizers have not announced when the event might return to Nashville.
The new Nissan Stadium is expected to open in 2027, potentially creating an opportunity for a future race to return a downtown street course.
