In mid-2022, Carol Carter and Kathi Holdman opened Curated Collections in the former Burdette’s Tea Room and Trading Company building. While both women are interior designers, their work is very different and they complement each other. Together they have put together a showroom shining a light on their individual and shared talents.
Together they offer interior design services, custom window treatments, furniture refinishing and painting, event decorating and all occasion table setting. The showroom features decorating ideas, furniture, home décor, gifts, fashion accessories and more.
“Whether it’s a small project or an entire home renovation, we can tackle it with you one idea at a time,” says their Facebook page. “…There’s no job too big or too small, and you’d be surprised by how affordable a big difference in your home can be.”
Holdman also does business decoration. She has done seasonal decor for businesses like World Market, Hat World, Build-A-Bear and The Avenue outdoor mall.
Sam and Sandy Ramsey, the owners of Burdette’s Tea Room, knew what they were doing when they decided to rent the space to Carter and Holdman. Still owning the building, they were looking for just the right business owners to take over the space they closed in May 2021 after 20 years. The famous tea room attracted people from near and far, including country stars like Dolly Parton. They wanted a business that would understand the architecture of the historic 1912 building and also add positively to the changes that are occurring in downtown Springfield. The design business moved from 101 Seventh Avenue.
The building was originally used as a general store and then for many years as McCord and Harris Drug Store. The Ramseys bought it in 2000 and began an extensive renovation incorporating many of the original architectural aspects, including the tin ceiling and pine floors. It is a welcome addition to the well-preserved historic downtown, including the 1879 courthouse and the old post office where the Robertson County History Museum is located just off Courthouse Square.
“I know many of you were hoping for a restaurant,” said Sandy Ramsey on Facebook, “but I think you are going to love this new shopping experience [that is] just across the street from Main Street Boutique. The two shops will complement each other extremely well.”
Burdette’s Tea Room received much attention over the years in various magazines and on several television shows. Although their closing was the end of an era, Ramsey has stated on Facebook that they are currently working on a cookbook that will feature many of their famous recipes, including their beloved scones.
