Franklin Bomb Threat Cleared, Business and Street Closures Reopen

UPDATE: 12:09PM – At 10:00 am, Wednesday, emergency responders converged on the area surrounding the Twice Daily Shell, at 5060 Carothers Parkway, after a concerned customer saw a woman abandon a backpack at the pumps and then drive away.

Initial information provided to responding officers was that a gas station employee reported a customer came in and told them about the abandoned backpack. Dispatchers advised officers that another person then called in, saying they thought it could be a bomb.

First responders initiated safety protocols to evacuate and isolate the area until further determinations could be made. Members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Bomb Squad investigated and determined that there was no threat. The backpack contained several pairs of shoes.

Franklin Police appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while they and responders from several agencies worked to quickly evaluate and mitigate any potential danger to the public.

UPDATE 11:32 AM: Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Bomb Squad determined there is currently no threat. The area has been reopened.

UPDATE 10:47AM:  Southbound lanes of Carothers at McEwen has been closed in both directions.

August 23, 10:46AM – A bomb threat and an abandoned backpack has closed the Twice Daily Shell at 5060 Carothers Parkway, along with streets surrounding the area.

Northbound Carothers is closed at Liberty Pike, along with Southstar Drive.

A bomb squad is en route to the scene.
