City of Springfield Seeks Public Input on Regulating Distance Requirement for Beer Permits in the Core Commercial Zone

194

The City of Springfield is seeking public input on regulating the minimum distance requirement from schools, daycares, parks, playgrounds, churches, and other places of public gathering for on-premise beer permit holders in the Core Commercial District.

Currently, beer permits are prohibited from being issued within one hundred feet (100’) of schools, daycares, parks, playgrounds, churches, and other places of public gathering to otherwise fully qualified eating establishments located in the Core Commercial District.

Advocates for eliminating the minimum distance requirement cite the opportunities for current and prospective entrepreneurs to engage in business in the Core Commercial District. Opportunities to operate with an on-premise permit for the sale of beer can attract entrepreneurs to operate brick-and-mortar businesses within previously vacant buildings in Downtown Springfield.

Advocates for tighter restrictions on the minimum distance requirement cite possible disruptions to the operations of schools, daycares, parks, playgrounds, churches, and other places of public gathering for on-premise beer permit holders in the Core Commercial District.
