UNARCO Material Handling, Inc. awarded Allison Kirian and Jarrett Stamps the annual Charles Edward Highsmith Scholarships. The scholarship is named for Charles Edward Highsmith who, before his death in 1996, created many of the product designs and patents that have made UNARCO a leader in the material handling industry. This scholarship represents his dedication to the company, the industry, and the community where he devoted so much of his time.
As a student of East Robertson High School, Allison Kirian was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Beta Club and the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. In addition to her accomplishments in the classroom, Allison participated in dance, including ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary as well as musical theatre, marching band, and concert band. She is very involved in the community with volunteer work and will be attending The University of Tennessee, Knoxville to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Pre-Law in the fall.
Jarrett Stamps graduated from Todd County Central High School in May, where he was a member of the Beta Club, 4-H, Spanish Club, Art Club and Humanities Club. He also was on the school track team and a member of band. Jarrett was often on the Principal’s List and received awards each year for being Distinguished in State Testing. In addition to school involvement, he was always willing to give back to the community and volunteer where needed. He will attend Murray State University to study Wildlife Biology with a concentration in Fishery to eventually start a career and help the environment.
UNARCO was able to provide two scholarships this year with a generous donation from Charles Edward Highsmith’s son, Dave Highsmith, who matched UNARCO’s scholarship to help a second student with their college tuition.
