The Library of Congress
The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, not only a talented musician, but also a true titan of children’s literacy. Her Imagination Library has received multiple Library of Congress Literacy Awards and, in 2018, Dolly visited us to donate the program’s 100 millionth book to our collection. She even hosted story time.
Visit Music City
Today, Nashville mourns the loss of one of our own.
Dolly Parton came to Nashville with a dream and went on to share her music, her heart, and her unmistakable spirit with the world. Her songs became part of the American songbook, but her impact reached far beyond music. She helped shape the Music City we know today, and through a lifetime of generosity and kindness, her impact on Nashville is immeasurable.
When Dolly was inducted into the #MusicCityWalkOfFame in 2009, she spoke about what Nashville meant to her: “It strikes me in a pure place in my heart and in my soul to know that I am part of this wonderful city.”
Sixteen years later, we had the privilege of honoring her with the E.W. “Bud” Wendell Award for the extraordinary impact she made on Nashville’s hospitality industry throughout her life and career.
It’s difficult to imagine Music City without Dolly Parton. What she gave Nashville can be heard in our music, felt in our community, and seen in generations of artists who followed the path she helped create.
We will always love you, Dolly.
Grand Ole Opry
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we say goodbye to a true country music icon, Opry member Dolly Parton.
There is no doubt Dolly’s mark on the world, and on us here at the Grand Ole Opry, will be deeply felt for generations to come. She taught us to always lead with kindness, generosity, and compassion. May her legacy live on through her songs, the lives she touched, and the countless artists she inspired. There will never, ever be another one like her.
We will always love you, Dolly.
Kacey Musgraves
Dolly. This one really hurts. The world feels a lot less sparkly all of a sudden. So glad she’s with her Carl Dean.
Reba McEntire
Well, I just got the news that my buddy Dolly passed onto the higher and greater side.
Dolly, thank you for all the wonderful things you did for us here on earth.
Your love, your music and you gave so much with your huge huge heart.
There will never ever be another you.
We will remember and cherish every memory and every note you ever played and sang.
Thank you, Lord, for Dolly.
She’s gonna have a blast in heaven singing all her favorite songs with all her family and friends who have gone on before her.
I’ll never forget the first time I met you and I’ll never forget our last conversation. I hold it with love in my heart.
I will always love you,

Rare is the one who climbs to the pinnacle of fame, then scoffs at its allure, only to retain the genuine humility that defines them.
Dolly Parton was one of a kind, who loved people, her work, her family, and her Lord. Tennessee has forever been changed – enhanced – by her, and will never be quite the same without Dolly
Lily Tomlin
Friend. Songwriter. The Great Harmonizer of Humanity. Dolly. Dolly. Dolly. Forever Dolly

KC and the Sunshine Band
I am in shock. I met Dolly back in the late ’70s. We had the same manager, and I was lucky enough to meet her and know her throughout the years, and then we ended up with the same management team again years later. She was one of the sweetest and kindest people I had ever met. I have many fond memories that I will cherish and hold close to my heart. Such a talent and a tremendous loss to pop and country music and to those who knew and loved her. She will truly be missed.
Franklin Lanes
Dolly Parton was the rarest kind of person. She brought light, joy, and love everywhere she went and was unceasingly kind and inspirational to everyone she ever met. Her legacy will live on for generations through not only her music, but also her dedication to philanthropic causes like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and a whole mountain of other causes that bettered and continue to better the lives of people in Tennessee and the world. It was one of our great honors to host Dolly and her family for their Christmas parties over the last several years, and we will dearly miss seeing her during Christmas seasons to come.
Thank you, Dolly, for being a shining light in a world that can too often be dark and dim. We love you and we will miss you.
Country Music Hall of Fame
Dolly Parton’s legacy is not celebrity, but humanity,” said Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “She was a champion of equality and literacy. She was a picture of dignity, even when dressed outrageously. Anyone who seeks to be more like Dolly is on the right track, but they’ll never get to the finish line. She came from poverty to become the most important native of Tennessee. She shared her fortunes for the good of all of us, and shared her soul in every note she sang.
Blake Shelton
I can say with absolute certainty that we are all feeling the same heart brokenness today. I only got to spend any real time with Dolly when Gwen and I got to work with her on The Voice. I want everyone to know that she was the EXACT person that you think she is. It was like being with the funnest, most loving, most caring and closest member of your family. Truly a loss for the entire world. We love you Dolly.

Dolly’s heartfelt wish was that Dollywood always remain a place of joy, hope and togetherness—a space where families and friends could honor her memory, not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams.

Bill Anderson
The last thing Dolly said to me was, “Bill Anderson – I Will Always Love You.” She was looking me in the eye from the giant video screen in the Grand Ole Opry House on the Occasion of my 65th Opry anniversary a few weeks ago. She was Smiling as only Dolly could, making my night even more special than it already was. The news of her passing has rocked my world, but as we sang together back in 2023, “Someday It’ll All Make Sense.”
Williamson Health
Today, we join our community and so many around the world in remembering the incomparable Dolly Parton.
A few years ago, our Williamson Health newborns helped us pay tribute to Dolly through one of our monthly baby photoshoots. One of our sweet little stars donned her very own “Coat of Many Colors” in celebration of a woman who brought so much color to the world.
Today, that photo feels even more meaningful.
We are deeply saddened by Dolly’s passing and grateful for the extraordinary legacy she leaves behind — through her music, her generosity, her love for Tennessee and the countless lives she touched.
Thank you for the music, the memories and the joy, Dolly. You will always hold a special place in Tennessee’s heart.
Don McLean
The death of Dolly Parton is as big as Elvis. This rocks the country and the world in the same way, and we won’t get over this for a long time. God bless this beautiful girl.
Kid Rock
Quite simply The G.O.A.T Thanks for the songs, the laughs, the humility and grace.
Without a doubt a woman who God truly has his hands on. Rock on Dolly, baby rock on.

Dolly Parton has always carried a light that shines from deep within. It is a light that will never fade.
Her gifts as a singer, songwriter, musician, actress and entertainer are legendary. But as remarkable as her talent is, I believe her greatest legacy is her heart. Her faith in God, her kindness, her incredible work ethic and her generosity are simply part of who Dolly is. She has that rare gift of connecting with people and making everyone feel like they matter.
And perhaps that is why her music has meant so much to so many of us. We all lived a little bit of life through Dolly’s songs. She gave words to love and heartache, hope and hardship, joy and dreams. Somehow, she could tell her story and make it feel like ours.
Dolly has spent a lifetime sharing her light with others. Perhaps the greatest tribute we can give her is to carry a little of that light forward ourselves: to be kinder, to give more generously, to lift others up, and to leave the world a little brighter than we found it.
One beautiful way to do that is by supporting Dolly’s Imagination Library and helping continue the work she began, putting books into the hands and dreams into the hearts of children everywhere.
Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the faith, the generosity and, most of all, the heart you have shared with all of us.
We will always love you, Dolly.

The Oak Ridge Boys
Dolly was the songbook of many of our lives. I remember when she joined the Porter Waggoner Show. We were on those shows and shared the same dressing room. She was charming then, just as she was the last time I saw her. “When I Sing For Him” is one of my favorite songs she ever sang. We recorded “Coat Of Many Colors”, written by Dolly. When she wrote, “I Will Always Love You”, I believe that is one of the greatest songs ever written.
When she called us to help open her new theater in Pigeon Forge, I was thrilled. One of the highlights of my career is to have THE OAK RIDGE BOYS, BOB HOPE, DOLLY PARTON, opening her new theater.
Dolly, I could go on and on about you giving to children’s learning, but others will want to thank you.
I will close with, “I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU”
Nancy Jones
George and Dolly shared a truly special bond. They came up together playing the Grand Ole Opry and became part of the very fabric of Nashville and country music. Dolly always said George Jones was her all-time favorite singer. I will never forget when they recorded together during The Bradley Barn Sessions. God bless Dolly. Country music will always love her.
Rhonda Vincent
It would take a lifetime to express the love and gratitude I have for Dolly Parton.
She was a true friend and mentor, even making a trip from Nashville to Greentop, Missouri when I had a life-threatening illness.
She said, “I had to make sure you’re okay myself.”
Her work ethic was unmatched, and although she was a world icon, she was as down to earth your next door neighbor.
I will ALWAYS love you Dolly!!
Crystal Gayle
When I was growing up in Wabash, Indiana, I would sit on the floor in front of our TV on Saturday afternoons waiting for the Porter Waggoner show to come on. I couldn’t wait for Dolly to sing.
I loved her voice and songs and how beautiful she was. I thought Dolly was an angel. When I first met her, I realized that she was.
We will always love and miss our Dolly.
Janie Fricke
My heart is broken over the passing of my dear friend Dolly Parton. Dolly brought so much joy to this world through her songs, her kindness, her humor, and her beautiful spirit. She had a special way of taking the everyday moments of life and making them feel extraordinary.
I am so grateful for every memory and for the privilege of calling her my friend. My prayers are with the Parton and Owens families and with everyone who loved her. I take comfort in knowing that Dolly is in the loving arms of Jesus and reunited with her beloved Carl. God Bless you Dolly.
T. Graham Brown
The sweet, kind, and incomparable Dolly Parton has passed on to rest in the arms of her Jesus. It would take volumes to list her many accomplishments.
Some of my favorite memories are of being on the road with her and Kenny Rogers. She always lit up the stage, and everyone in attendance was thrilled and delighted by her performance. She will live on in our hearts forever.
We will always love you. Rest in peace, sister.

The Oak Ridge Boys
The Oak Ridge Boys were guests on The Porter Wagoner Show in Nashville when we first met Dolly Parton.
With a voice like an angel and that special light about her, she captured our hearts from the very beginning. We treasured the many times we were blessed to share stages with her through the years.
Today, I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of her passing. The last time I remember feeling this stunned was when Elvis Presley passed away.
Rest in peace, Dolly, until we sing with you in harmony again.
Your songs, your voice, and your light of love will live and shine in our hearts forever.
Vince Gill
We are all crushed here at our house. One of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard was when Dolly and I sang that last note of ‘I Will Always Love You’ the year we performed it on the CMA Awards.(1995)
Billy Ray Cyrus
I have so many moments and memories with Dolly, it’s hard to know where to start. Like every little boy, I grew up loving Dolly Parton. She was a part of our lives, on our TV’s, right in our living rooms.
In 1992, I’ll never forget walking into her dressing room to apologize for all the tabloid stories which claimed I was having an affair with her. In true Dolly fashion, she just looked at me, winked and said, “Honey, this trash sells records!”
Dolly recently sent me a beautiful message, telling me she loved me with her whole heart. I will always love her in the same way ….. with my whole heart … and I always will.
The Bellamy Brothers
We’ve known Dolly a long time, and like everybody who was lucky enough to cross her path, we loved her.
Back in 2005, we got the chance to record “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body” together. Dolly told us she’d always wanted to sing that song, and hearing her voice on it is something we’ll treasure even more today.
She was one of a kind… talented beyond words, funny, gracious and always Dolly.
Country music lost one of its greatest, and we lost a friend.
We love you, Dolly. We’ll miss you.
John Ford Coley
Dolly Parton was a light. That’s the only thing that I can say. Her spirit and her smile were infectious. Every time I saw her performing, I knew I was gonna leave that place uplifted. Rest in peace, Dolly. We’re losing our southern women, and you were the embodiment of someone that was appreciative and proud of where you came from. You made a huge difference in the life of so many people, and I, for one, am so sad to see you go, but you’re not gonna be forgotten. Not by a long shot.
T.G. Sheppard
There are no words to describe the sadness that I am feeling hearing that Dolly has died today. We were dear friends from the Pigeon Forge days to touring together, and at every instance she was a total pro and a class act. I know people will be asking what I will miss the most about her, and that would be her loving laugh, sense of humor, and one of the most incredible voices I’ve ever heard. Now that voice will be heard in heaven as she joins the angel choir. I will miss you, Dolly. You will forever be in my heart, and if there’s one thing I know for sure, you can’t make old friends. RIP till I see you again.
Kelly Lang
Dolly was such an inspiration to me as a young girl. I wanted to be like her and chose to hone in on my skills as a singer and songwriter because of her. I even chose to sing two of her songs on Star Search and was thrilled when she called me on stage at the Opry to acknowledge my performances and thank me for singing her songs. I loved her business sense and have taken a few pages out of her playbook through the years. What a force of nature she was and will continue to be. I will always love you, Dolly, and rest assured that the world is a better place because you were born.
Moe Bandy
Dolly was one of the most talented and sweetest individuals ever. There will never be another like her.
John Berry
One thing we all have in common is our love for Dolly Parton. We were all fortunate to bear witness to her kindness, honesty, wittiness, and incredible musical talent. She brought joy and respect into every interaction, caring for and loving everyone. Dolly, I will always love you!
Lacy J. Dalton
Dolly was an absolute angel here on Earth, and now she’s an angel in heaven. Her Spirit will shine forever.
Michele Wright
I’ll never forget the first time I met Dolly backstage at the CMA Awards. She has been such an inspiration and example to so many of us. “I Will Always Love You” was my encore song for many years. There will never be another Dolly Parton. Her extraordinary talent, her heart, her humor, her generosity, and the way she has touched generations of people are truly one of a kind. What a life. What a legacy. And what a gift she has been to all of us.
Johnny Lee
There will never be another Dolly Parton in this world. She was one of a kind. This is a sad, sad day.
Leon Everette
My heart is deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton. Knowing Dolly, there’s just so much I could say. She was more than a country music legend to all of us artists and fans. She was a shining example of faith, kindness, generosity, and love, and as she always said, what you see is what you get. My prayers are with her family and friends. I know Heaven has welcomed home a true Tennessee Angel. Love you, Dolly.
The Malpass Brothers
There are no words to describe how important Dolly Parton and her career have been to country music and music in general. When you mention the name Dolly Parton, the word “icon” immediately comes to mind. She was an inspiration to so many, and we would like to keep her fans and family in our prayers during this great time of loss. Dolly was a true American treasure who came from the hills of Tennessee and rose to become one of the biggest stars of our time. Dolly, thank you for the memories, and thank you for teaching us all that if you believe in what you do and work hard enough, the sky is the limit. Love you forever.
Darin and Brooke Aldridge
With that down-home personality and the love she had for everyone, Dolly Parton was one of those rare legendary icons who somehow felt like a member of your own family. She’s been in our radios, on our televisions, in our children’s books, our stores… she’s simply been woven into so many corners of our lives. We always hoped we’d get the chance to meet her here on earth and tell her the impact she made on our lives and music. But can you imagine how much brighter Heaven must be, sparkling with Dolly there? We have no doubt God welcomed you with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Dolly, we will always love you. Thank you for showing us what it looks like to be kind, generous, humble, and full of love. Rest easy, Dolly.
Karen Waldrup
Sweet Dolly. The world’s hearts are broken today. She was all of our favorite singer and person. I’ve thought about this day many times, knowing that it would come someday, but didn’t expect it this soon. Please join me in prayer for Dolly’s family today, as I know she is up in heaven singing with the angels. Thank you, Dolly, for your influence on me, my music, and my life. You will be remembered by all of us forever.
Jesse and Noah Bellamy
Dolly Parton was undisputedly one of the great singers, songwriters, and performers of any genre, and a jewel in country music. We were very lucky to see her perform growing up, and it was about as perfect a show as you could imagine. Every classic you could’ve hoped for was there, one great song after another. But as remarkable as her talent was, it was matched by her warmth, generosity, and humanity. She was simply one of a kind.
Trey Calloway
What else can be said about Dolly Parton other than that she was a true giant? She was a legend, one of the greatest to ever do this thing we call Country music. I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing, and even more sad that I will never get to shake her hand and tell her what a fan I am of her art. I’m saying a prayer tonight for her family and listening to “Coat of Many Colors.” Rest in peace, Dolly; you’re the queen.
Makenzie Phipps
My heart is truly shattered to hear about the passing of country legend Dolly Parton. Her songs and stories have left such an iconic mark in country music for decades, and there truly will never be another Dolly. I pray for her family during this time, as well as for all country music fans. It truly is a sad day.
Michael Peterson
Dolly Parton embodied kindness, greatness, and humility…she was an unrepeatable force who lived an unforgettable life. Thank you, God, for allowing us the privilege of experiencing her gifts. What an inspiration.
Margie Singleton
Dolly was an icon, and there’s not enough that can describe this loss to our industry. I worked with her many times, and this is such a sad day. Love you, Dolly
Tim Atwood
The WORLD knew Dolly Parton, and the world knew her equally as a one-of-a-kind talent and philanthropist. What an amazing legacy! One of my greatest nights at the Grand Ole Opry was the night I was asked to play piano for Dolly as she sang “I Will Always Love You” center stage. It was magic. Dolly was magic. As professional as she was on stage, she never lost her childlike innocence and delight in humankind. Dolly was relatable to all. For years, Dolly took a lot of kidding about the size of her boobs. What people should have talked about instead was the size of her heart. I already miss you, Dolly. We All do.
Wyze and the Tellers
Dolly was one of a kind. An amazing songwriter, musician, storyteller, and performer. And then when it went beyond music, she had a profound impact improving our world. She will be missed by musicians in every genre and people everywhere in the world.
Johnny Owens
I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly. She and my dad shared so many wonderful years as part of the country music family, and there was always a great deal of love and respect between them. Dolly was every bit as kind and genuine as the world believed her to be. Country music has lost one of its brightest lights, and I send my love and heartfelt condolences to her family and everyone who knew and loved her.
Lee Newton
My heart is so heavy today. Dolly Parton was more than a country music icon, she was someone I looked up to, admired, and was inspired by for so many years. She paved the way for generations of artists, especially women like me who dared to dream a country music dream. Her music touched our hearts, but her kindness, faith, humor, and beautiful spirit touched the world. There will never be another Dolly. Thank you for the songs, the inspiration, and for showing so many of us that a little girl with a big dream can go further than she ever imagined. This world is going to miss your light. I know I will.
Celeste Marie Wilson
Dolly Parton is a once-in-a-lifetime artist. Her artistry, kindness, and ambition have built a path for so many upcoming female songwriters. If I ever write a song half as good as one of Dolly’s, I’ll have known I made it. Her legacy will forever be embedded in American culture. Thank you for sharing your butterfly wings with the rest of the world.
Stephanie Rabus
