Springfield residents can put unwanted large items at the curb beginning Oct. 1 as the city’s second annual fall junk collection gets underway.
The citywide collection will run through Oct. 31 and is available to residents within Springfield city limits. The service allows residents to dispose of large items that cannot be picked up with regular household trash, including furniture and other bulk waste.
Residents should place items at the curb starting Oct. 1 rather than waiting until the final days of the month, since collection in their neighborhood may have already taken place.
Loose and small items should be bagged. The city will not collect hazardous waste, mattresses, construction materials, tires or home improvement materials.
The service is not available for commercial properties, apartments, condominiums or vacant properties. It is offered in addition to, rather than instead of, the city’s regular household trash and brush collection.
Springfield offers citywide junk collection only in April and October each year.
Residents can find additional junk collection policies at the city’s website or contact the Public Works Department at (615) 384-2746.
