A crash involving a vehicle striking a business in Portland led to the arrest of a driver on multiple charges, according to police.
The Portland TN Police Department said officers responded the morning of April 13, 2026, to a crash at Scooter’s Coffee. Investigators determined the vehicle left the roadway and traveled approximately 213 feet, hitting multiple curbs, uprooting a stop sign, and damaging a realtor sign before crashing into the side of the building. Officials said no serious injuries were reported.
During the investigation, officers reported finding an open alcoholic beverage container, an open THC-infused beverage, and a substance believed to be marijuana inside the vehicle.
Police identified the driver as Betty Bailey, who was observed showing signs of impairment and taken into custody. She is charged with driving under the influence, violation of the open container law, simple possession of Schedule VI (marijuana), reckless driving, and speeding.
Bailey is scheduled to appear in Sumner County General Sessions Court on April 28, 2026. Authorities note the charges are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
