Portland Police Arrest Man After Vehicle Flees Deputies In Robertson County

Michael Thomas Stroud (Portland TN Police Department)

On May 15, 2026, Portland Police Officers received a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) notification from the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office regarding a vehicle that had fled from deputies during an attempted traffic stop for failure to maintain its lane of travel.

Portland officers later observed the vehicle turning onto Gateview Drive at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle but temporarily lost sight of it while searching the area.

During the investigation, officers encountered and identified Michael Thomas Stroud, the registered owner of the vehicle in question, walking nearby. Officers subsequently located the vehicle parked in the lot of Gateview Elementary School.

Further investigation revealed the presence of an alcoholic beverage, a THC vape pen, and synthetic urine commonly used to falsify drug tests inside the vehicle. Officers also discovered a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine in the grass near the area where Stroud was located. Officers ultimately determined that Stroud was operating on a revoked driver’s license and that the vehicle was uninsured.

Stroud was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sumner County Jail. He was charged with Reckless Endangerment with a Vehicle, Driving on a Revoked License, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Falsification of Drug Test Results, Tampering with Evidence, and Financial Responsibility Law violations.

Bond was set at $30,000.

The charges and allegations referenced in this release are accusations of criminal conduct only and do not constitute evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
