Sue Davenport, 87, of Springfield, passed from this life on Tuesday February 24, 2026, at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday March 4th at 12:30 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Anne Proctor and Andrew Hunter officiating. Interment will be at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday in the Spring Hill Cemetery, in Nashville, with Terry Hunter, Donnie Bryan, Jered Goodfred, Hunter Goodfred, Jackson Goodfred, and Mark Bryan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Hunter and Finn Hunter. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Ms. Sue was born March 31, 1938, in Belton, KY (Muhlenberg County) to the late Dallas Dalton and Edith Annes Beliles. She grew up in the country on a farm and was one of seven children. She attended East Nashville High School and then on to Hume Fogg in Nashville, where she graduated in 1956. After graduating, she was employed for one year at WSM Radio, where she answered phones, made copies, and was considered a “runner”. She then went to work at Genesco, where she trained and became a chemist in the glue portion to glue shoes. After meeting Franklin “Gene” Davenport at a YMCA dance on a Saturday night, they later married and moved to Greenbrier. After all her children were born, she decided to stay close to home and was employed at Tennlite and then on to Ingersoll-Rand where she worked for 20 years and retired as a supervisor in the shipping and receiving department. After retirement, she was the bookkeeper for their rental properties and then became caregiver to her husband.
Ms. Sue loved gospel music and sang in the choir at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was also an Act Teen and GA leader. She loved NASCAR racing and would take her kids to Highland Rim on Saturday night to enjoy the races. Ms. Sue also enjoyed league bowling and won many trophies. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlight of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Franklin “Gene” Davenport and by her sister: Janice McPherson. Ms. Sue is survived by her children: Kenneth Davenport of Springfield, Deborah Hunter and husband Terry of Springfield, and Donna Bryan and husband Donnie of Mt. Juliet, by her grandchildren: Cassie Goodfred and husband Jered, Andrew Hunter and wife Andrea, and Mark Bryan and wife Reagan, by her great grandchildren: Jackson and Hunter Goodfred, and Finn Hunter, by her special nieces: Anita Clark and Darlene Ayers, and by her siblings: Dalton Beliles of Belton, KY, JoAnn Drumheller of Beachmont, KY, Shirley Carver of Beachmont, KY, Marta Morphew of Central City, KY, and Karen Trent of Browder.
