A Life Celebrated in Joy and Love

Mrs. Shatan P’Trece Frierson Ellis

Mrs. Shatan P’Trece Frierson Ellis, affectionately known as “Trece,” was born on April 26, 1975, to Mrs. Marsha Frierson Owens and Mr. Clifford Owens. On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 10:37 a.m., she peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, surrounded by the love of those who cherished her most.

Trece was a woman whose vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering determination left an unforgettable imprint on every life she touched. Though she courageously battled Lupus for many years, she refused to allow her diagnosis to define her. Instead, she chose to live with resilience, grace, humor, and a deep appreciation for life’s blessings. She embodied the heart of a true Lupus Warrior—fighting with courage while continuing to celebrate life with joy.

A proud graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School’s Class of 1994, Trece was an accomplished Lady Tiger basketball player whose competitive spirit and determination followed her throughout life. Her love for people and adventure led her to various employment opportunities throughout her career. Whether attending concerts, reading a good book, shopping, talking with friends for hours, or lovingly keeping her family on their toes, Trece found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments.

She united with New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder Richard Carter, Sr., where she professed her faith and developed a relationship with the Lord that sustained her throughout life’s journey.

On February 24, 2013, Trece was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. Alex Leshawn Ellis. Together they shared a bond of love and companionship until his passing. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Mr. John Will Frierson and Mrs. Annie Lee Smith Frierson; and her uncles, Billy Ray Frierson, James “Sonny” Frierson, and Wendell Frierson.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Cherishing her precious memory are her loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Marsha Frierson Owens; her stepfather, Mr. Clifford Owens; her beloved daughter, Ms. Ranesha Frierson of Columbia, Tennessee; her son, Mr. Treshawan Ellis; her stepchildren, Mr. Alex Donchevel “Tupac” Ellis and Mrs. Amari (Bruce) Thurmond; her treasured god-sister and dear friend, Ms. Markisha Cofer; her cherished friend, Ms. Jennifer Gill; and her step-granddaughter, Miss Madison Hunt.

She also leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her loving aunt, Mrs. Shirley Diane (Larry) Webster; her uncles, Mr. John (Joyce) Frierson and Mr. Vernon (Calvinita) Frierson; her beloved godson, Mr. Layten Carter; her sister-in-law, Ms. Tracie Ellis; her brother-in-law, Mr. Thedus Ellis; her father-in-law, Mr. Alex Ellis, all of Gary, Indiana; her devoted cousins, Ms. Gwenver Frierson and Ms. Angela Frierson of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.

Trece’s life was a testament to perseverance, love, laughter, and faith. Her story reminds us that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to live courageously, love deeply, and find joy in every season.

While we mourn her absence, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived, the memories she gifted us, and the legacy of strength and grace she leaves behind.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:23
