Rita Sue Walker, 78, of Old Hickory, TN, passed at her home into the loving hands of Jesus to her eternal home February 18, 2025, surrounded by family. Born Rita Sue Cornette to Mary Alline and Raymond Wilson Cornette, on January 12, 1947, in Greenville, KY.
After graduating from Greenville High School in the spring of 1965, she went to work for the Sandifer Century 21 Real Estate office in Hopkinsville, KY, as a bookkeeper. She quickly decided to become an agent and then a broker, both of which she excelled at. She left the profession behind in 1990 and spent her time focusing on family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Howard “Sandy” Walker; children, Stephanie Cohoon and Shane (Emily) Cohoon; stepsons, David (Becky) Walker and Charles (Juliet) Walker; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister, Brenda Pearson and six nieces and nephews.
Outside of her career and motherly duties as a single parent, she found joy in friendship with close girlfriends. Because of her business she knew everyone in town, which made it difficult for her children to fly below the radar. She loved to laugh, tell jokes, and share stories. Decorating and baking were her favorite hobbies, and she was always a wonderful host. She was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, selflessness, and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of family, friends, and many more that were touched by her. We ask you to remember not the way life ended, but the way it was lived.
We have great gratitude and appreciation for the medical personnel and caregivers from Alive Hospice. We could not have completed this journey without their assistance.
