Randall D. “Randy” Williamson, 90, of Springfield, passed from this life on Thursday January 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Steve Sorrells, Kat Mercer, and Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenbrier Cemetery with Tommy Williamson, Todd Williamson, Josh Williamson, Justin Williamson, McKenzie Williamson, Tyler Williamson, and Barry Pendergrass, serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Everett and Cora Ann Williamson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Randy was born March 10, 1934, in the Love Hollow community of Macon County. He was a graduate of the Macon County High School Class of 1952, where he was a proud Tiger! In High School, he was a three sport Letterman, the recipient of the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Award and voted Most Popular of his class. In later years, Randy was honorably inducted into the Macon County Sports Hall of Fame. He served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Randy played both basketball and baseball for the U.S. Army and he coached baseball during his service time. He always had a great love for sports and was noted for playing in the Independent Baseball league for Dupont and the Nashville Vol’s Minor League team. He was a former coach for Shoetiques and Twitty City Baseball leagues in Nashville. He worked as a professional baseball scout for the Florida Marlins and the Cincinnati Reds, where he served alongside his son Tim. In 1968, Randy was chairman of the Lion’s Club when he secured a recreational loan and became a founding member and the first President of the Greenbrier Recreational Club (now known as Oak Hills Golf Course). He strived to bring youth sports and activities to his community and was named the first Commissioner of the Greenbrier Youth Association. Randy always had a heart to serve and was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Robertson County Credit Union, from 1995 until his retirement in 2015. He loved the game of golf and served for many years as the Director of Gallery Control for the BellSouth Senior Golf Classic. Randy worked for Ford Glass for over 37 years and retired as the Manager of Production Control. After his retirement, he proudly delivered prescriptions for Greenbrier Pharmacy to assist his son and daughter-in-law. Randy dearly loved his family and friends, and always enjoyed spending time with them. He spent many hours watching any and all kinds of sports.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives: Joan Williamson and Carole Williamson, by his son: Timothy “Tim” Williamson, by his brother: Reggie Williamson, and by his sisters: Audra Cothron and Vauda Cothron. Randy is survived by his sons: Thomas “Tommy” Williamson and wife Tammie of Greenbrier, Todd Williamson and wife Misty of Springfield, by his seven grandchildren, his two great grandchildren, and his devoted caregiver, Kat Smiley Mercer.
The family requests, if so desired, for memorial contributions to be made to Robertson County Junior Golfers. All contributions will go to assist with the expense of the school golf teams’ use of facilities at the golf course, where Randy lived and spent many hours watching them play hole #12.
