Linda Ruth Sloan Fizer was born Oct. 1, 1944, in Robertson County, the daughter of Sarah Johnson and Ben Sloan. She was a member of the Springfield High School Class of 1962. She gained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law in 1980, graduating in the upper five percent of her class.
Professionally, she served as a Business Education Instructor at Cheatham County High School for 24 years. She also served as the Cheatham County Executive for 8 years where her visions helped bring the county forward into the 21st century. In 1980, Mrs. Fizer opened her own law practice and became the first woman to open a private practice law firm in Cheatham County. In 1998 she moved her law office from Ashland City to Springfield.
She held professional memberships in the Robertson County and Tennessee Bar Associations and The Roberson County Career Women’s Association as well as being active in her community. A great visionary, she initiated and served on the first Board of Trustees of Leadership Cheatham County and initiated and served on the first Board of the Cheatham County Education Foundation and was honored for her many great achievements.
Mrs. Fizer was named the 1996 Outstanding Woman of the Century for Cheatham County. She was also named Career Woman of the Year by the Robertson County Career Woman’s Association in 2002. If she was on your team, she was on it!
She exhibited compassion and unconditional love to those that needed it. She was kind. In her spare time, she loved going to TPAC, movie days, going to bicycle races, hanging out by the pool, traveling, and she loved flowers.
Although Mrs. Fizer was recognized as a well-accomplished civic and public servant, she felt that her greatest achievement was that of wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and finally, great-grandmother.
