It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Linda J. Gray, age 82, of White House, Tennessee. Linda passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her beloved husband, children, siblings, and close family, who were by her side as they said their goodbyes. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable ache in the hearts of those who loved her, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain with them always.
Linda began growing her family at just 15 years old. Though she was young, she never allowed the challenges and responsibilities of adulthood to dim her spirit. Instead, she faced life with strength, determination, and a resilience that carried her through the years. She later married her beloved husband, William “Bill” Gray, on November 1, 1978. Together, they built their dream cabin by hand, creating not only a home but a lifetime of memories within its walls. It was there that they made a life together and remained ever since. In just a few short weeks, they would have celebrated 48 years of marriage, a beautiful testament to the life and love they shared.
Linda was a remarkably artistic and talented woman who found joy in creating beautiful things with her hands. She enjoyed drawing, wood burning, needlepoint, and crocheting, always finding something new to create. She was determined and capable, with a special ability to accomplish whatever she set her mind to. Throughout much of her life, she worked in management, bringing that same determination and dedication to her career.
One of Linda’s greatest joys was tending to her flowers. She took tremendous pride in her flower beds, carefully nurturing them and finding happiness in watching them bloom. Her love for flowers reflected the care and attention she gave to the things that mattered to her. She also loved to read and was known for her sharp memory. Whether she was absorbed in a good book, working on a craft, celebrating a win at Bingo, or enjoying a game of Rook with her loved ones, Linda found her own meaningful ways to enjoy life.
Linda loved hosting events and bringing people together. She had a creative spirit and a knack for making things special, and she cherished opportunities to gather with family and friends. Those who knew her will remember her cake decorating talents, her determination, and the memories made in her company. The little things she did, the traditions she kept, and the time she shared with those she loved will continue to hold a special place in the hearts of her family.
Though saying goodbye is never easy, Linda’s life leaves behind so much to be grateful for. Her family will carry her memory forward in the stories they share, the traditions they treasure, and the beauty they find in the simple things she loved. She will be missed more than words can express, and she will never be forgotten by those whose lives were made better by having known her.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Norris and Mary Francis Vaughn; her brother, Kevin Vaughn; her sister, Rebecca “Becky” Rigsby; and her daughter, Pattie Vaughn Stanifer. She is survived by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Gray; her children, Rhonda Blythe (Richie), Robert “Robby” Vaughn, Tonia Vaughn, and Pamela Lee; her siblings, Roger Vaughn (Gina), Richard Vaughn (MaryAnn), Kenneth Vaughn (Cheryl), and Susan “Susie” Gentry; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24 at 10 o’clock in the morning with funeral services to follow at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
Linda’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, in the flowers she so lovingly tended, in the creations she left behind, and in the countless moments that will forever be cherished. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Linda’s memory.
