Jimmy Cox Obit

Jimmy Bradley Cox, 77, was born on December 19, 1948, in Nashville. His parents, Robert Clyde Cox and Nannie Lou Bradley Cox, were natives and residents of Robertson County. Jimmy lived at Pleasant View, TN as a young child with his aunt Marguerite Bradley Chambliss. In 1957, he moved to East Nashville, where he lived with his father and stepmother. He attended East Nashville schools and graduated from East Nashville High School in 1967. He attended Nashville Auto Diesel College after high school.

Jimmy was baptized at Edgefield Baptist Church on Russell Street.

Jimmy learned to do auto body repair and paint growing up around his dad’s business, Tru-Value Motors on Woodland Street. In 1985, he started working for Nissan Motor Manufacturing in Smyrna, TN, where he was employed for 25 years.

On May 23, 1969, Jimmy married Debie Oeser in Nashville. They were parents to two daughters.

In 2012, Jimmy was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma and his prognosis was poor. He fought hard and beat the odds, going into remission for many years. He developed dementia about five years ago.

Jimmy loved playing pool and golf. He enjoyed being outdoors. He worked very hard to take care of his wife and daughters. He liked everyone he met and everyone liked Jimmy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Debie Cox; daughters, Tammy Cox Miller and Robert Miller, Amanda Cox and Junyang “Jay” Li; grandchildren, Layton Miller, Lauren Miller Longwell and Nathan Longwell; brother, Robert Cox; sister-in-law, Ann Oeser Toler Kuhns; a niece and several nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Lymphoma Research Foundation or charity of your choice.
