A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Buddy West of White House and a Kempville Community native, was pronounced deceased at 11:43 p.m. Wednesday evening February 26, 2025 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville, eleven days following his 76th birthday. He was admitted to the hospice facility February 21st.
Mr. West had pre-arranged with Sanderson in Kempville to be cremated and that was to be performed at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. Following cremation there will be a public graveside service and interment at the Hudson Family Cemetery on Little Salt Lick Creek Road in the Kempville Community on Friday afternoon March 7th at 1 p.m. There will be military graveside honors by American Legion Post # 57 of Carthage. His pastor, Mike Haase will officiate.
Mr. West was born Buddy Anthony West on February 15, 1949 at the former McFarland Hospital in Lebanon and was reared in the Kempville Community one of three children, two sons and a daughter and the middle child of the late Kempville Community merchant, Wirt Auston West who died March 22, 1982 at the age of 63 and Lillie Mai Hudson West who died April 7, 1999 at the age of 78.
The West family were co-owners and operators of the Hudson & West General Store in the Kempville Community.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brittany West.
A brother-in-law, Nazih Mikhall Ishak preceded him in death at the age of 70 on July 22, 2021.
Mr. West was a member of the 1966 graduating class at Smith County High School where his major was Science. While at S.C.H.S, he was in the Latin Club, Marching Band, Spring Festival, Pep and Debate club and the junior play cast.
The statement made of him in the ’66 annual; “the greatest pleasure in life is doing what others say you can’t do”.
Mr. West proudly served our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He retired in 2005 as the city mail carrier for the Metropolitan-Nashville postal zip code 37216, a position he maintained for thirty-nine years before his retirement.
Mr. West was a member of The Rock Church in Cross Plains.
Surviving Mr. West are his three children, Anthony West Jr. of Hendersonville, Becky West Jones and husband Ben of Goodlettsville, Austin West of Antioch in Davidson County; grandson he raised as a son, Heston West of White House, seven other grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Glenda West Ishak of Hendersonville; brother, Raford West and wife Jan Green West of Lafayette; Loving Companion, Barbara West.
