Brother Gerald “Ray” Mayo, age 88, of Greenbrier, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023 at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Brother Mayo was born February 10, 1935 in Springfield to the late Raymond E. and Inez Fields Mayo.

He worked as a traveling salesman for McQuiddy Printing and was a minister for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Brother Mayo also enjoyed crappie fishing at Reelfoot Lake.

In addition to his parents Brother Mayo is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Walden Mayo.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Rhonda Mayo of Greenbrier; daughter, Cheryl Mayo of Greenbrier; siblings, Barbara Hatfield of Corinth, MS, Dorris Wayne (Betty) Mayo of Hendersonville, Alice Binkley of Pleasant View, Raymond “Pete” Mayo of Greenbrier, Delana Cheatham of Clarksville, and Doni E. Mayo of Dandridge, TN; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 at 2 pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Brother Ronnie Burgess and Brother Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Lights Chapel Cemetery with Jerry Burns, Dustin Burns, Matthew Mayo and Jordon Resnick serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 11 am until the hour of service at 2 pm.
