A Robertson County man could face charges after investigators say he falsely reported a home invasion in an attempt to gain sympathy from his recently estranged girlfriend.
According to the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4 a.m. on Aug. 2 to a 911 call reporting a home invasion at a home on Drake Road in Cedar Hill.
The caller, identified as 22-year-old Alec Paine, told deputies that two men had broken into his home and that he was hiding in a bedroom. He also claimed the suspects had fled into a nearby cornfield.
Deputies launched an extensive search using a K-9 unit and a drone but found no evidence of any suspects.
During the investigation, Paine admitted he had fabricated the story and made the false 911 call to gain sympathy from his estranged girlfriend, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office said the case will be presented to a grand jury for formal charges.
