Students at East Robertson Elementary School in Cross Plains, Tennessee, merged creativity with safety by participating in The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Region 3 Paint the Plow program, transforming a snowplow blade into a one-of-a-kind winter safety message. The hands-on project enables students to learn how TDOT prepares for winter weather while using art to convey an important reminder to drivers.
Working together, students decided on the theme “Small Town, Big Safety,” celebrating local pride while promoting an important public safety message. The artwork features patriotic coloring, bold lettering, and the school’s mascot creatively blended into the TDOT logo, symbolizing the partnership between students and transportation crews working together to protect motorists.
The finished plow made a special appearance in the Cross Plains Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6, where students had the opportunity to walk alongside their artwork as it rolled through their hometown, sharing their safety message with the entire community.
When winter weather hits, the truck will be part of the fleet clearing snow and ice from the interstates and state routes.
