Stephen E. Clark, 44, was charged with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee.

According to court documents, deputies responded to a 911 call on Sept. 4 reporting that Clark was acting aggressively, threatening to harm himself and possibly armed.

When deputies arrived, they heard shouting and a physical altercation inside the home. As they tried to enter, Clark allegedly pointed a firearm at a deputy, forcing deputies to take cover behind their patrol vehicles.

Deputies learned Clark’s girlfriend was still inside and that he was holding her hostage while threatening to kill them both. After deputies heard a gunshot from inside, they forced their way into the home.

A deputy fired one shot at Clark, who retreated into a bathroom and allegedly fired multiple rounds at deputies.

Clark’s girlfriend later escaped. She told deputies that Clark had fired a shot at her and held two pistols in the bathroom, pointing one at her and the other at the door. She said he threatened that they were both going to die and that she escaped after he fell asleep.

Deputies later found Clark unconscious in the bathroom with two pistols nearby.

Clark was prohibited from possessing firearms because of prior felony convictions in Davidson and Sumner counties, including theft, vandalism, evading arrest, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and facilitation of especially aggravated burglary.

If convicted, Clark faces up to 15 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
